Chatterbox
Community Newspaper of the Year 2008 Published quarterly, in early March, June, September and December. Chatterbox is based in the village of Avoch, a fishing village on the Black Isle, north of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands.
Welcome to Chatterbox
Chatterbox was founded by Jack Malpas in September 1997, in response to the need then expressed for a mouthpiece for the Avoch & Killen Community Council and now continues as a medium for a full range of community news and views throughout its area. It is designed, printed and published in Avoch by a dedicated, small team of volunteers for the villages of Rosemarkie, Fortrose, Avoch & Killen and Munlochy and adjoining areas.
The Area and Community
The Black Isle is a peninsula bounded by the Inverness Firth to the south, the Moray Firth to the east and the Cromarty Firth to the north. It is largely an agricultural community of about 200 square miles, extending from Muir of Ord in the west to Cromarty in the east, mainly in a number of small communities. The largest of these is Fortrose and Rosemarkie with over 3000 people. The population, about 9,000, has risen 15% since 1980, and is set to increase further in the immediate future as housing developments are implemented. (Statistics taken from the 2001 Census)
The area is fast becoming home for many new families who are moving into the area due to employment opportunities in Inverness. The housing that has been developed and is currently in the pipeline would suggest that these new arrivals would be described as middle to high income earners.
![]() Magazine Distribution
Distribution of the magazine increases with each issue. All new advertisers are invited to purchase a minimum of 5 copies to sell or give to their own clients if this is appropriate. We have local shops, businesses, churches, B&Bs and Post Offices selling copies as well as copies being purchased from our website.
Advertising Rates
Our current rates can also be downloaded from our website http://www.chatterboxnews.co.uk/advertising/advertrates.html. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will find the rates extremely low, as stated earlier everyone who works on the Newsletter is a volunteer and therefore our costs are kept as low as possible. We reserve the right to determine the position of full page-width adverts according to the design layout of the issue. Specific positioning available by negotiation.
Artwork
We are happy to provide layout work for your advert. We just ask you to ensure that enough time is allowed for your approval of the layout so that the advert can be fully agreed by the press date. Press date is the 14th of the month preceding the date of publication. Publication dates are 1st of March, June, September and December.
